-----Jared had never once understood the phrase “when it rains, it pours” quite as well as he did right in that moment as he walked slowly up the front walk to his house. He was always such an optimistic young man, never letting a thing in the world get to him and letting it all flow off of his shoulders. Jared had a lot of faith and hope, but there really was only so much that a person could take. He had been stressing over his baby sister, Mykayla, so much lately as it was becoming really very obvious that her health was failing her. Then, there was the fact that Jared had no job but a wife and baby at home that he needed to be able to support. Now this? It all seemed like too much, and Jared really did not know how he was going to be able to break it to his wife that he had another child with an ex-girlfriend from high school. Miranda was such a wonderful woman, and Jared knew that she loved him very much, but he didn’t know how she was ever going to understand this one. He sighed deeply as he opened the front door, almost hoping that she wouldn’t hear and that he would have some more time to prepare. Sadly, he didn’t have that kind of luck and Randi came around the corner from the kitchen. Jared had just gone out to pick up some things; poor Randi would never have guessed that he would come home with news like this. “Hey pretty girl,” he said, greeting her as he pressed a kiss to her forehead and offering a small smile to her. “Where’s Dean?” Even though Jared had so much weighing on his mind that it felt like it might just crush him, his main priorities were still Randi and their son, and Jared’s love for Dean was unmatched. He could tell Randi about Reese and Aureila in a minute. randi / amber!

man these times are hard. miranda trent had been trying to keep up her happy self, and with some help from kaler she was able to keep what was really bothering her tucked away inside her head. it was still so hard to process the idea that her husband had a child with another woman. it literally tore her apart and made her sick to her stomach to think about it all. it was why she needed a day to herself and thanked marion for taking dean for the day. besides he needed to spend some quality time with grandma while his mommy tried to clear her head and clean the house. that was what she had been doing whenever jared had gone to do whatever he had been doing that afternoon. randi’s hair was pulled into a ponytail as it was starting to grow back a little, not much but enough to keep away from her face, as she started to clean the kitchen floor. the brunette was trying to get most of the housework done before he returned that way they could have some time to themselves, but when she looked up and saw jared there was something wrong. he had that same expression whenever he had told her that he lost his job. she pushed herself up off the floor and went to greet jared as he entered the house. “welcome home husband.” she said bringing a small smile to her face, and then had to remind him of where their son was. “he is with grandma and grandpa trent tonight, remember? mom said she’d watch him to give us some grown up time.” it had been a long while since they had had any alone time, and she needed it to remind herself that they were still them. she was still head over heals in love with him, just like she always had been and always would be. but from the expression on his face, randi had a sneaking suspicion that he had run into reese. she would just have to wait until he wanted to tell her what was wrong. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 358 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----Coming home was usually what put Jared’s mind at ease. He was already out in his own little world for the better part of the day, but here was where he could truly relax and just hang out with his wife and kid. Sure, there were things in his life that were still stressing him out, but with Randi and Dean, none of that other stuff seemed to matter. Except for now, it seems, when it all was going to directly affect them. Jared could only imagine where life was going to go from here and how different things might be after he told Randi what he had just found out, but all that he could do was hope for the best. It felt as though he was almost afraid to breathe and had to remind himself to do so as Randi responded, telling him that his mom and dad had taken their son for the night. Jared had known that somewhere in the back of his mind, but with everything else, he had completely forgotten. He attempted another smile, nodding a bit in acknowledgement. “I think we’re going to need it.” Jared sighed again, stepping away from Randi and going into the kitchen, mindful of where he was stepping because he could tell that she had been cleaning. He went to fridge and got a beer, twisting the cap off and taking a swig all too quickly; it take up enough time to let him figure this out before he had to turn to face Randi again. “Do you remember Reese McCoy? I ran into her in town today…” Jared, Reese, and Randi had all gone to high school together, but Jared didn’t know if his wife would remember that old girlfriend of his, or if she had ever really known her at all. Now if only Jared knew how in the hell he was supposed to tell his wife that he had another child. Was that something that you just blurted out or could he somehow build up to it? He sighed again. “And I have no better way to say this than to just say it. She has a daughter now, and she’s telling me that she’s mine.” And if you looked at that little girl’s face, you would see that there was no denying it, too. Jared’s eyes met Randi’s, waiting for the reaction he knew was bound to come. randi / amber!

man these times are hard. as soon as jared spoke again, randi knew what was coming. she knew that he had run into the woman who had single handedly been able to ruin her happy blissful marriage. up until jared had lost his job things had been easy and even him losing his job was not awful. it was manageable, but if what reese said was true then randi didn’t know what she was going to do. she had already spilled her guts to kaler and said how inadequate she felt about everything. it was going to be hard to get past that feeling as she listened to him speaking and watched him closely. randi knew as soon as he had walked in the door that something was wrong, and her stomach started to toss and turn. she had that sinking feeling and she couldn’t shake it as she pulled that ponytail out and let her hair fall across her shoulders. whenever her name escaped his lips randi immediately fell silent. she nodded her head and tried to fight back the tears that were threatening to break over her beautiful eyes. she remembered reese and had even talked and knew what jared was going to say. she waited and wrapped her arms around her body as she tired to keep the pieces that were slowly falling away from her together. “i remember her, she talked to me a couple weeks ago.” that conversation was exactly what jared was saying again. putting the nail in the doubt that was already welling in her heart, and as she tried to keep the tears from falling she didn’t know how to respond. her mouth opened slightly and then closed before her voice came out quietly, just barely above a whisper. “i know jared, she told me already. just tell me the truth. is it your daughter? because i don’t know...” her voice broke and tears started to fill her eyes and fall over her cheeks as she tried rocking herself slightly to keep herself together. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 345 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----And Jared had thought it had been difficult to come home and tell Randi that he had lost his job. This was so much worse, and there was no way of fixing this. He could go out and find another job somewhere. Sure, that hadn’t been so easy for a guy that only had a high school diploma and could only get an entry level position, but Jared had been working on it and had some people asking around for him, too. But the idea of having this other child…that wasn’t something that he could just make go away for Randi. It damn near broke his heart to tell her because he knew what it was going to do to her, but keeping it from her wasn’t an option. Jared had one of the best poker faces around, but not when it came to Miranda. It seemed that she did remember Reese, though, and Jared was surprised to hear that they had spoken but he didn’t comment. It wouldn’t have changed anything, though her next words did seem to change something. Where he had been nearly pleading and very apologetic before, now his expression had hardened. There was a long pause before he could find the words he needed to answer her with, picking them out of everything else that was bouncing around his head. “My name is on her birth certificate, which wouldn’t have meant a damn thing if that little girl didn’t look like me.” She had Jared’s eyes, and even of his facial features but in a much more feminine way, and good lord she was beautiful. “And what don’t you know? Because apparently you knew about this and you chose not to say a word. How does that work, Randi?” Jared hated feeling like this, but how could she honestly expect him to not be upset when she knew about this the entire time and kept it from him? randi / amber!

man these times are hard. miranda was kicking herself in the head repeatedly for saying that last statement. it had been the whole point of making kaler talk to jared, so he wouldn’t know that she knew. but how could she hide it from him any longer? he had told her her worst fear, that her husband had another family that had just up and waltzed into their lives. as soon as those words had slipped, jared seemed like he was a whole other person. his expression was one that never crossed his face when talking to her. it was never like them to fight, their relationship had always been so carefree and easy. now randi was fighting for air and trying to keep herself from having a total mental breakdown. her dark eyes were full of tears as randi stared at her husband hoping to find the words that he needed to hear to make any of this slightly better. “jared, i wanted to tell you. i didn’t believe her when she said it, i couldn’t believe it.” randi was now crying uncontrollably trying to hold herself together, but she understood why he was upset with her, but it was not randi’s place to say a word. if it had been her in the situation that reese was in she would have told jared first. not his wife, but randi had done what the other woman had asked her and kept her mouth shut. “she begged me not too, because she wanted to tell you.” randi was falling to pieces as she managed to work her way over to the couch and sat down. she tucked her knees up under her chin and just crumbled there. everything that randi had been terrified about was coming true, and now all she was waiting for was jared to say that she wasn’t what he wanted anymore. if that day came miranda trent would be completely broken past the point of repair. what she needed was jared to make this better, and seeing as how he was the one who had to do something the ball was entirely in his court. “so what are you going to do? since you have a whole other family...” she could barely speak but it was randi and she hated feeling no control. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 394 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----Out of everything that Randi could have said, that had literally been the last thing Jared had expected to come out of her mouth. She had known that Reese was back, and she had known about that child, and she hadn’t breathed one damn word of it? How could she possibly think that was okay? Jared wasn’t one that often lost his temper. Hell, most people thought that he didn’t even have one just because he was so mellow and it took a hell of a lot to push him to this point. He didn’t like feeling this way, and what made it even worse was that he never expected to feel this way toward Randi. She was the person in the world that he trusted the most next to his siblings, and even though she hadn’t really lied to him it almost felt like it. Despite his anger, Jared’s heart broke when he saw the tears well up in his wife’s eyes, knowing that none of this was truly her fault at all. He listened to her, and his anger spiked once again but this time at Reese. What kind of a bitch would put someone in that kind of position? Hell, what kind of a bitch would even begin to think that it was okay to tell his wife this kind of news before he had even heard it? It was pissing him off to no end, and he was desperately trying to keep himself in check here. Randi turned and wondered into the living room, and after a moment Jared sighed, sat his beer down on the counter and followed after her. At first he kept his distance, but when she spoke Jared found himself moving toward her. He wanted to reach out and comfort her, but in that moment he wasn’t sure that he knew how to. “What am I going to do? Randi, what do you think I’m going to do? They aren’t my family. You and Dean are my family, and I’m not going anywhere.” Had she really thought that he would just trade her and their son in just like that? That was hurtful in itself. “I know it’s not ideal, but I can’t do anything about it. I can say I’m sorry, but that doesn’t help. I don’t know what to expect out of this but we’re just going to have to deal with it.” There was still an irritated edge to his voice, but Jared was trying like hell to calm down so that they could try to work through this as much as they could for now. randi / amber!

man these times are hard. when anyone saw jared trent angry, it was like watching hell freeze over. never in her entire life had miranda thought that she would be the one on the end of that wrath, but here she was. she was being forced to endure the wrath that was jared because she had done something for someone. she knew it was wrong to not tell him, but if it had been herself to tell him this...randi could only imagine the damage that would have done. the brunette already had enough self doubt and worry with everything else that was going on in their lives, but this was breaking her into a million pieces. when she turned away from jared, she didn’t think he would follow. it could not be easy on him finding something like this out, and then finding out that she knew all about it. randi betrayed him and she would probably never forgive herself for being part of the reason he hurt right now. randi’s rms were wrapped around her knees tight, much like she had sat hidden in her closet whenever she had done something as a child. this was the way she had tried to keep herself together after every beating that her father inflicted, and though jared didn’t hit her it felt like she had been. emotionally randi was completely drained and her doubts in herself were enough to question him staying. “are you sure that you want to stay? i just don’t know how to deal with this jared.” she felt so inadequate to him and was so uncertain of everything. all she wanted to do was run away and hide. she knew that jared would never trade dean in, but she was replaceable. at least that was what she thought every day since reese had shattered her happy life. her dark eyes were still full of tears as she looked up at him. “i know you can’t do anything about it. i just don’t know what to say, jare. i honestly haven’t hurt this much since i moved here and now i feel like i never left my parent’s house and it isn’t your fault.” she just hoped he understood that she was just lost. her heart ached and all she could do was cry, but what she wanted more than anything was for him to hold her and remind her of why she fell in love with him in the first place. he was her world and she couldn’t lose him. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 427 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----He honestly didn’t know where this was coming from. Jared was the one that had just found out that he had fathered another child and that his wife had known about it for weeks and hadn’t told him. He was the one that deserved to feel all the hurt and betrayal and the uncertainty, and yet there Randi sat on the couch, dissolving into an outright mess. Jared knew that it was a big shock, and he knew that it would mean that some things were bound to change, but she should never doubt him so much as to think that he was just going to leave her. Jared had a lot more faith and confidence in their relationship than that; this was a strain, sure, but he didn’t understand why she could see it all unraveling so easily. “Of course I want to stay, Randi. Christ, why would I leave you? And do you think I know how to deal with this any better? At least you’ve had time to think it over.” There was that temper again, flaring up when Jared least wanted it to, but he really couldn’t help it. There was just so much pressure and tension in this conversation right now and he didn’t know what else to do with it. Then she was telling him how much it hurt her, and while there was a part of him that understood, there was another part that really wanted to give her some kind of a reality check. “I don’t understand you. This is not the worst thing that could have happened to us, and yeah, I knew you wouldn’t be happy about it but it’s not like I’m jumping for joy over it. I didn’t do this on purpose to hurt you. I didn’t cheat on you, and I didn’t lie about anything. I didn’t fucking know about any of this, and you should know a hell of a lot better than to think that I would leave.” Jared knew that Randi tended to get more upset or emotional about things than most people, and he had always known how to handle it before, but this? This wasn’t something that he could take. randi / amber!

man these times are hard. she knew above all else that she was not taking this very well, hell it hurt her more now than it did coming from the other woman’s mouth. at least then she had time to doubt and pray that what reese had said was untrue. hearing those words slip from her husband’s mouth only confirmed that the unthinkable had happened. things were most certainly going to change now, and randi just didn’t know how it was going to affect them. her own insecurities were what was making this so much harder. she wanted him and loved him so much, but this just killed her. there was so much that she couldn’t say, and as she looked at him wide eyed. randi didn’t know how much more of his temper she could take, and she tired to speak calmly but her voice was a bit frantic. “i don’t know. because i’m not good enough for you? i didn’t have time to think this over jared. i tried to tell myself it wasn’t true and that she was lying because she was jealous. don’t you see that? hearing it from you, just breaks my heart.” it was the simplest way for her to say it, but it wasn’t even beginning to cover everything that the brunette felt. when jared started to speak again it was hard for her to sit there. she was shaking and the way he spoke to her made her feel like she was about to be slapped or hit. this was how her father had talked to her, and she stood up then. “how am i supposed to know anything jared? i don’t know about any of this and how it is going to affect you, me and dean but now we have a whole other family that we have to worry about and i don’t know if i can handle this! it’s just too much.” as the last words slipped from her mouth she could feel her feet leading her away from this. she heard the thunder crack, and realized that no matter where she went she was going to be going into a storm. randi just couldn’t handle him yelling at her anymore and soon she had crossed the space from the couch to the door with her fingers around the handle she turned slightly to look at him. “i love you, jared. forever and always.” tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 410 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----This was not how the young man saw this going at all, and he felt like he was totally and completely helpless. What the hell was he supposed to do here? Why couldn’t they just talk about this without it all unraveling and ending up in the broken mess that this was becoming? Jared had known that this was going to be difficult for her to understand, but he still could not get over this reaction. Why in the hell would she even dare to think that the moment he realized there was another woman out there that had had his child that he would take that as on out and leave? Didn’t she know that he loved her and only her? He wasn’t one of those kinds of men, and he thought she had known that much. He had never said that she wasn’t good enough, and never would. That was just something that she was going to have to figure out for herself, though. Jared didn’t know how else to say it to her right now. What she said next pushed him even more, and Jared just brought one hand up to run over his face, closing his eyes for just a second so he could try to think through this without yelling at her anymore. Randi didn’t deserve that, but she sure as hell didn’t have to act the way that she was, either. Yeah, it was a fucking mess; Jared knew that much, but they needed to figure it out. By the time Jared looked back at Randi, she had peeled herself away from the couch and was at the door, her hand positioned to open it and let herself leave. “I love you Jared. Forever and always.” That had always been what they said to each other, and even though it always did Jared’s heart worlds of good to hear it, right now it really didn’t seem to mean anything. She was leaving, and she thought that telling him that would make things better? “Then stay, Randi. I know this is hard to digest, but if you leave we’re never going to figure this out. I can’t apologize enough, but I shouldn’t have to. It was a mistake, and I feel sorry as hell for putting you through this, but I’m the one that needs you right now. But if you really don’t want to deal with this I’ll leave. You shouldn’t have to.” He wanted for them to both stay and for him to try to work through this, and if he had to go then they would never solve any of these problems. randi / amber!

man these times are hard. randi had never thought that things would get this bad, never in the entire time that she had known jared. she had always depended on him whenever things got hard, and now they were fighting. it hurt her so much because she needed him, and above it all she knew he needed her. the problem with that was she had no idea how to be there for him in this moment. she watched him wipe his face, and she could not help but feel that she needed out. him yelling at her had broken any spirit that she had, and soon enough his voice was filling the air. her dark eyes met his, and she knew that she should stay. her heart wanted to go over to him and let him wrap his arms around her and just forget about this whole altercation. then there was her head telling her that she needed time away to process. tears were still sliding down her cheeks as she turned away from the door. “you don’t need to apologize jared, this isn’t your fault. i know that, but i don’t know how to sit here and figure it out.” randi’s voice was quiet as she spoke, because she was trying to sort out the feelings she had and form words that didn’t hurt him. she knew how much he needed her to understand, and she wanted to. she wanted to say that everything was okay and that they would get through it, but she had no idea how to. “you shouldn’t have to leave either. i love you, jared. even through all of this, please don’t doubt that.” she crossed back over to her husband and sat down beside him taking his hands in her own. “i am here; i’m not going anywhere. i just need to clear my head, because right now all i’m doing is hurting you and i can’t do that. i don’t want you to hurt, anymore than you already are.” she hoped she was explaining it all clearly, because she was so very confused about how she felt about everything. she leaned forward and kissed him gently leaning her forehead against his. “i’m sorry. i should have thought about you and told you when i knew jared. i just didn’t want to make it worse for you.” she closed her eyes wishing she could have another chance to do this over, but sadly all she had was a broken heart and a strained relationship that she wasn’t sure how to fix. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 439 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----You know how sometimes in movies or TV shows, the whole thing, or at least one scene, turns out to be a dream? Yeah, the viewers get a little pissed because they thought whatever was happening was real, but the characters are often relieved because it means they get to go back and change something that had gone terribly wrong in the dream. Jared was desperately hoping for a dream sequence right now, to wake up from a nap on the couch and to get to see that this was all just made up in his head. The entire day, and especially this fight with Randi, would all just go away and he would be able to continue on in their happy life together because this couldn’t possibly be them. Jared and Randi never walked away from each other, and they certainly never let things get to them like this. Sadly, this was the reality of it and they were caving beneath the pressure. He didn’t know how to fix it, and Randi seemed like she already had her mind made up about how this was all going to play out and that it wasn’t worth the attempt to piece it all back together. Jared felt lost, and he shot one last look at Randi before moving to sit on the couch, exhausted by it all already. When Randi spoke again, he looked up to see that she had moved away from the door, which gave him at least some hope that his words had reached her. He didn’t know how they were supposed to figure this out either, but he wanted to try. He was glad to hear that she wasn’t leaving, and so very glad when she leaned forward and pressed that small kiss to his lips before letting her forehead rest against his. This was the Randi and Jared that he needed right now, and all that anger and frustration he had felt just moments before sizzled out and vanished completely. Yes, she should have told him the moment that Reese had brought it up, but Jared wasn’t going to keep making her feel badly about it. He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment before opening them and looking into those pretty brown eyes of hers that he had always loved. “No matter what, I’m not going anywhere, okay? I love you and this doesn’t change anything. We’ll deal with it, and maybe it won’t be so bad. You never know.” randi / amber!

man these times are hard. there was one thing that miranda hated more than anything else in the entire world, and that was fighting with jared. he was supposed to be the one person that she did not fight with. he was supposed to protect her from all of the hurt and it was because of something in the past that she hurt to begin with. it was not his fault in the least, but she just was having a hard time wrapping her head around the idea of this other “family” of his. she wished that it was all a bad dream and that she could wake up, but this was real. she had been in a daze for weeks trying to live her day to day life, randi was supposed to be able to handle anything that came her way; after all, she had been through so much more than one person should have before she moved. maybe that was why things hurt her so much more, but feeling his lips pressed against hers reminded her of why she loved him. even though she hurt and even though things were going to be rocky for a while, he had her back. she married him for better or worse; that was how things worked. randi had no idea how she was supposed to work through this with him, but she wanted this. she needed him and she was glad that the storm had passed for the moment. looking into the blue eyes of his, and randi could melt. hearing those little words made her feel a little more at ease. she needed to know he wasn’t going to walk out on her, even though it was just her own insecurities that put that thought in her head. then again their love was newly found. maybe she had a reason for it, but it was jared. he had never given her any reason to doubt him, but she let her arms wrap around him. “you promise you won’t leave, because jared i can’t raise dean without you. i love you; i always have which is why it hurts so much. that some woman can just waltz back into our lives and turn it on its head.” she was so upset about reese trying to worm her way back into jared’s life, but that little girl was his. and so they were going to have to deal with it and work through whatever they had too. “it’s going to be awful, jared. i don’t trust her, so i don’t want her around my family.” that was what irked her the most. jared had to be involved with his daughter’s life that was just how it was and who he was. she had to respect that. “what do we do now, jare? i know you and i know you are going to want to be there for her, but how do we do this?” she pulled her legs up and moved so that she was curled up into his chest, she needed him to help her figure this out, and she needed him to make her feel like they could get through this. tagged for: jared mitchell trent // word count: 510 // notes: poor randi // credit: to luna love bug <3

-----Although this situation seemed to have spiraled out of control rather quickly, Jared could feel some of his old optimism surfacing. He could hear the voices in his head saying that there were worse things that could have happened, like something happening to Dean or Randi, or they could be facing things like Mykayla was with her cancer, or what Kaler had in losing his entire world in the blink of an eye. Things for Jared and Randi were not ideal, but it was manageable and in the end, that was all that Jared knew he could ask for. All he needed now was for Randi to understand that, and while she was still obviously upset things did seem to feel better than they had before. “I’m not going anywhere, pretty girl. That is an absolute promise. You and Dean are my world, no matter what else comes our way. And I know it doesn’t seem fair, but that’s life, I guess.” He gave a soft shrug of his shoulders, looking at her apologetically although he knew that no amount of apologizing would make it right. A small sigh passed through his lips as Randi spoke about Reese and how she didn’t feel that she could trust her. Jared wished it wasn’t that way, but he wouldn’t argue with his wife. “That’s fine. I’m not asking you to trust her, or like her. I’m not even sure how much I still like her, but it’s not fair to treat Aureila the same way.” Not when that little girl had done absolutely nothing wrong. She had just been born to a mother that had thought it best to omit her from her father’s life for the past six years; she had had no choice in the matter. But it was Randi’s next question that was the hard one, and Jared hesitated a moment before answering. Randi repositioned herself against his chest, and Jared let his arms wrap around her, happy to provide her with any kind of comfort that he could in this moment even if it was a minute amount. “We take it one day at a time, I guess. I’m not going to punish that little girl for something that wasn’t her fault, but it’s ultimately up to Reese as to what part I have in her life. For now, we just accept it and move on from there until we see what it brings. Worrying about it does no good, and I don’t like to see you cry.” He pressed a kiss to the top of her head then, and then moved to where he could kiss her neck.
